2022
When we moved to Dubai in 2006, we were amazed. We had been living in Spain, in a place where had no tall buildings, and suddenly we saw all these incredible skyscrapers. We were truly blown away. Dubai is always on the up and getting better, and the real estate sector is no exception. There are better architects, better buildings and better communities. Once we got here we knew it would be our home. It’s the city that offers everything and we wanted to be part of it.
Here are the main reasons why we chose Dubai as the city to build our real estate business and also our personal property portfolio.
1. It’s the world in a city
We both speak several languages so the diversity here is very appealing to us. We regularly converse in different languages each day. We even met someone from the Congo once who was shocked to hear us speaking to them in Lingala! We love the variety that Dubai offers. This can only be achieved through such a wonderful mixed of cultures coming together. It’s special and we wanted to be involved!
2. You meet a lot of wise people
Dubai has lots of very smart people and the entrepreneurial flair runs through the city. We’ve seen two cycles of the property market in almost 20 years now and we’ve learned the trends. We get to meet incredible developers and work with phenomenal clients. Our lives are richer (not just financially) because of the people we’ve been privileged to meet in Dubai.
3. The laws favour the investor
Whereas in other countries there are high tax sanctions for landlords, in Dubai they let you keep your money and there is no tax on residential property (in freehold designated areas). Another big bonus is the fact that properties are freehold so you retain 100% ownership of your property and don’t have unexpected and unwanted lease fees. This is a huge factor. Also, the authorities take unpaid rent very seriously here and there are cases of eviction and further consequences for not paying rent, so there’s a very good chance you’ll get paid!
4. Dubai’s always on the up
They say Dubai never sleeps, but it also never stops growing. There are ALWAYS new innovative ideas, new developments and fresh ideas to attract more people to the city. The visa rules are making it even more attractive for investors and there are constantly exciting plans and events here. There’s never a dull moment in Dubai. If you know, you know, and there’s no place we’d rather be than this great city.
People that visit Dubai know that investing in real estate isn’t just investing in bricks and mortar but also owning a part of the lifestyle they expect or want and about living in a place you can call ‘home’ and being safe.
